I once wrote several lyrics for a band and one was worked up into a sort of country-rock song that appeared on the band’s first album. I can’t remember any of the others and I never kept copies, but I’ve always wondered what it was they were about.
There are 3 Visitation pieces and the Final Visitation. I’ve always felt titles are hard to come by for me. I do like the idea of being visited by poems that stop by and share something that I might end up using but it doesn’t happen all the time (the using part). Many come and go, most leave something behind, but I can be a bit thick at times so I don’t always understand what’s been given or how it should be used. You are very good at explaining process. I’m not.
this one is a song

if you ever feel like it-I'd be happy to know the name of the band.
The band was White Duck, the song Annabelle.
That's my daughter’s name. Not White Duck. Poe’s Annabel Lee was where we got the idea for the name. But we spell it how you spelled it.
This IS a song. How beautiful, Paul.
Thank you, Patris.
That one goes to my poetry notebook
I'll chime in with my two pesos: my first thought was, what a lovely song this would be. Do you play an instrument?
Your latest post was restacked but I haven't gotten a chance to know you.
Thank you. I love music but I don’t play any instruments.
I love this whole poem. The first stanza in particular was very very striking to me!
As I told Corey Smith, the first 3-4 lines were a fragment from another piece and I expanded on the you be this/I’ll be that idea.
I love how that came together. Have you posted the piece that the start of this poem came from?
The Visitations II
A poem once came in the night, kicked off its boots and crawled into bed beside me.
I tried to explain myself by saying:
“Loss is a way of deciding whether what you found was true.
Retreat is another way forward.
Defeat, a chance to begin anew.
Regret is the name I give to you.”
The poem whispered softly in my ear:
You be a river and I’ll be a bridge.
You be the lowlands and I’ll be the ridge.
You be the city and I’ll be the sea.
Remember. Remember. Remember me.
I awoke in the morning, alone and wordless.
👏 👏 👏 that poem is fire!!
