in your mother’s eyes before the rains in the child’s eyes when you placed a chocolate in her palm in the teacher’s eyes when she learned you wrote a book in your father’s eyes when he said, “Your mother is dead.” in your eyes after the first kiss and the unquenchable thirst for another in the blinding tears of the last goodbye
Good Sunday, Jim, and Thank you for your comment. I have no current plans to publish anywhere outside of Substack but it’s nice to know If I did, I could count on support from a friend in Ireland!
Yet another reason your poetry is so moving. Your mastery in selecting a perfect word to create not only an image but an emotion all at once does not go unnoticed. Thank you.
Paul, you always do a wonderful job of taking us on an emotional journey. The eyes, the eyes truly reflect the emotion. You can see the emotion in the eyes of the owner, but what about my eyes when I see that emotion? Thank you for this, Paul
Very effective title usage. This is definitely one of those poems you have someone read when they 'don't get it'. Each stanza evokes a powerful feeling without being explicit as there's something here for every reader to relate to and go 'I've been there'. Very good Paul.
I appreciate your comment, Daniel, especially regarding the title. I originally thought of repeating “the look’ at the beginning of each stanza but discarded it in favor of letting each image presented try to do its work without additional explication.
Thanks for sharing this, @rena
All the looks, Richard
Another beautiful poem, I do hope you have plans to publish a book of your poetry, if not already. I will head up the line to grab one.🎓

There is a simplistic beauty to your writing that cuts to the core. Love it!
What a nice comment to read on a Sunday morning—Thank you, G.G.!
As usual, you find the spot where all the tensions are perfectly balanced, and are still. 🙏
Thank. Joshua, I appreciate it.
Unquenchable thirst for another..

I think the eye only sees itself through others, Steve—Thank you for reading and commenting
Great perspective, Paul. I’m going to sit with that.
Just when I think you can't outdo yourself, you prove me wrong.
Great stuff, Paul.
