You made silence your vocation writing wordless verses on an empty heart peddling songs with the urgency of sweat pooling in shadows beneath your breasts. Thanks for reading Paul’s Substack! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.
Hi Paul, I pondered this one deeply. It could be about a popular female singer, who realizes her verses are empty but popular. That realization could prone those pools of sweat as she realizes her success is built on nothing. Or it could be how you feel at times.
I know that I have made some monumental blunders in my life but I have found that if you are sincere in your apologies, most people are willing to forgive you. Here's to Diplomacy, Paul!
Empty heart, empty words, empty love. A sad but beautiful poem.

I think you may have a point there, Daniel!
This stuns, Paul.
High praise, indeed, Gloria—Thank you!
Yes, powerful. Mysterious.
Language is a mystery and sometimes poetry is, too. Thank you, Karen.
Powerful.
Thank you, Teyani!
Wow… “writing wordless verses on an empty heart.” Just incredible use of the language.
Thank you, Rod—I appreciate your comment.
Women can be quite mysterious at times. Other times, they can be just as shallow and callous as some men.
Neither has an edge on any of it

Yes, sometimes silence is the only real option.
Sometimes people are forced into silence
I feel such sadness reading this.
It is a bit sad, isn’t it?
Poem climbs up to trees top notches and I carve initials in bare bark to remember the great times we had before we got vocations.
The depth, the mood is powerful here, Paul. Thanks for this.
Thank you, Steve
So many great images in a short poem.
Thanks, Stan
This is great. Period.
Thank you, Michael
I’m going to take my time with this one.
I sat with it for some period of time, trying to think where it came from and what it meant.
It’s the beads of sweat bit…… did you come to any conclusions?
Nothing conclusive…an expression of the sort of nervousness or anxiety that comes from an inability to communicate.
Thanks for the restack, @piscadoro king fisher !
Thank you, @Fotini Masika, for sharing this.
